We had two bags of Chips, seventy-five skittles, five sheets of high-fructose candy buttons, a saltshaker half full of icing sugar and a whole multicolored collection of cakes, muffins, cookies, chocolates . . . Also, a quart of Cola, a quart of Ginger Ale, a case of Root beer, a pint of raw Corn Syrup and two dozen Truffles. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get into a serious sweets collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the Corn Syrup. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a pony in the depths of a Corn Syrup binge and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon...
