he Oasis Hive Located in the deserts of Equestria, this secretive and odd hive comes out at dusk, rarely coming out during the day. An average drone of the hive does not have any wings and thus cannot fly or transform into a Pegasus; rather, in place of a carapace they have a storage area to store water and emotional energy, regurgitating the water to gain the gratitude of a dehydrated and delirious pony, or the energy to aid another starving pseudochangeling. They have a secondary membrane to protect their sensitive eyes from dust and sand. The old “desert oasis with beautiful mares” illusion is a favorite trick of theirs.
This hive is located deep underground, with sub-branches located all around the desert. Within the hive is a complex system of drainage tracts and water mains, with the sole purpose of collecting water in the rare event of a rainstorm. (It rarely rains in the deserts of Equestria mainly because pegasi to move the rainclouds are few and far between, plus the arid climate generally makes the rainclouds evaporate before they drop their payload.) The high concentration of moisture generally makes it possible to grow crops more easily near the hive- but recently, two problems have arisen.
Appleoosa is built almost directly over the hive itself. The apple trees are growing only because they are tapping into their water, and their Queen, Sirocco, is afraid that if this continues, that they will quickly run out of their supplies. She is sending out various spies and infiltrators out to gauge the situation; only time will tell the fate of this hive. If she fails, it is possible that it could be the end of the town and hive. But if her scheme succeeds, the rewards could be greater than she expects.
In addition, her gatherers are falling victim to a series of attacks by changelings, who basically see her subjects as walking candy and drain them dry. With both food and water running low, she is hard-pressed to establish contact with the Appleoosians, in the hopes that they can help her with this problem
Agave (the infiltrator) is relatively new to posing as a pony; many were suspicious of her when she first arrived in the town. But after the townsfolk got to know her, she quickly established a reputation as one of the most hard-working ponies in town. More recently, she has begun to develop a crush… on a certain Earth Pony named after a certain variety of apple…
The hive in the previous entry is the Mossgrown Hive, led by queen Mayfly. They live in the Everfree Forest, and are overall the most wide-ranging hive. Mayfly is a proficient, if inexperienced, leader, and soon plans to meet with one of the Princesses themselves in order to discuss their affairs.
Witherwings was originally from the soldier caste of the hive, but gave it up in order to live with an Earth pony mare who he knew from nymph-hood. She knows he’s not a pony… but she doesn’t care. Recently, he has been considering joining the Royal Guard, for even if he lives several miles away from the hive, fighting is in his blood.
