How to Pony? First, I figure out how large I want my final picture to be. I tend to work at 2-3x the final size, since it looks cleaner when it's shrunk down after being completed. Then, I start with roughs - starting with the head for proportion, and then moving on to the body and legs to work out the pose. Sometimes I get something relatively "clean" like this to work off of; other times, I have to refine it before I can move on to the next step. I've tried for a simple but kinda dynamic pose for this guide! Next, I do the actual linework. In this case, I decided to go with the more traditional "inked" look, using the roughs as a starting point! Basically, a lot of brushwork, here. Inking can be a pain! Next, the flat colors! For this, I just hide the roughs, magic wand, expand selection, and use the fill bucket. Easy! From there, I move on to the more complex coloring, mask the inks and color them, and work up the eyes and cutie mark in layers. Now I add in the shadows and all that kinda stuff to help give that element of depth! Add in a background, resize it to the final dimesions, sign it, and it's done! Now, obviously, there's a lot of stuff I left out, here - brushes, pressure settings, color guides, pony anatomy... all that good stuff. I also didn't really do much with the background even though I probably should have. Nor is this the only way I do ponies. That said, no matter how I'm doing it, this is the basic process that I go through each time: roughs, lineart, flats, details. I hope this was at least somewhat interesting to see, even if it's not the most detailed guide out there. ;) -Lunar
